think about speaking English ..

I was thinking about my English skills and experiences.

Few days ago, one American family came to restaurant where I work for. The parents and their son completely don't speak Japanese. I gave them our menu, explained our menu, took their order, served food to their table.

I was so nervous!

Because I can use only easy daily conversations with foreigners, it is hard for me. I don't know the phrase that waitress should use in a restaurant like "May I have your order?"

I was worried about whether they understood my English or not.
But they said "Your English is very good! Don't worry!". So I took a deep breath.

Then, I thought about another experience.

Last year, I went to Los Angeles to study English. I was staying in my host family, Mike and Liz, for three weeks. In their house, I shared a room with Anna, German girl.

She is so smart! And she speaks English very well like native speaker.

While staying in LA, I learned many things that makes me grow.
But I also suffered from many things..

I can understand what some one's said but I can't explain my opinion in English.
And sometimes Anna, my roommate, said to me "Why don't you have your opinion? I can't understand you."
Many foreign people say to me "Your English is good", but I don't have a confidence for my English speaking skills.

But, recently, I changed my mind.

As a story in my restaurant, if I use English as possible as I can, then they try to understand me.
The important thing is challenging to speak and trying to tell something in English.
If my English grammar is wrong, but I must not to worry about it.
I should keep to use English. :)

This summer, from July 31th to August 11th, I plan to go to New York. My best friend's uncle has an apartment in Queens, and she will stay there for 1 month and half. So I'll stay her apartment with another best friend.

We're planning to go shopping, go to Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, WTC, and more!
It's not for study but I want to learn many things again. I'm really looking forward to it. Maybe it will be wonderful trip.

Last week we listened about the issue of May Day celebrations in Oxford.

At the base of the Magdalen College tower, some 12,000 people gather to greet summer.
Traditionally they come to hear the choir sing a hymn, but in recent years there's been a new May Day tradition.
People leaping into shallow waters of the River Cherwell and after that they rush to the hospital because of fractures.
Magdalen Bridge even has to be closed for several May Days to stop people jumping off.
But given the number of people who did it this year and the number of casualties, police are warning they may have to rethink next year's May Day celebrations.

Why people do such a thing?
In Japan, there's same things at Osaka.
When the big baseball game were taken, and if their team "Han-shin tigers" win the game, the supporters are excited and then they leaping into Do-ton-bori.

I can understand their feelings but I think it is stupid and dangerous.
They should feel a shame as an adult.

Movie review

My friend and I went to movie theater last week, we watched "The confessions of shopaholic"!

It was so fun:)
There are many colorful clothes, shoes, accessories...
All girls are excited while watching this movie.
This movie is not only comedic but also its story is nice.
We're inspired from Rebecca's life and thinking about our life(love, job, and so on).
I'm also reading this story in a paper book.
I recommend you this movie!
story:
In the glamorous world of New York City, Rebecca Bloomwood (ISLA FISHER) is a fun-loving girl who is really good at shopping—a little too good, perhaps. She dreams of working for her favorite fashion magazine, but can’t quite get her foot in the door—until ironically, she snags a job as an advice columnist for a financial magazine published by the same company. As her dreams are finally coming true, she goes to ever more hilarious and extreme efforts to keep her past from ruining her future.

Last week, we listened about the issue of marriage.

Recently, the number of the couple who tie the knot is reducing in UK.

In fact, there were 35,000 weddings in 1981 but it has fallen to 24,500 in 2005.

Is marriage becoming a thing of the past?

Actually there are more unmarried couple who could get married but they're choosing not to commit.
Because fewer people have lost their religious and don't value marriage and also new laws have made sham marriages more difficult.

In addition, I think one of the reason many couples don't choose marriage is responsibility.
Men and women don't want to commit to each other any more.

If we get married we have to take responsibility. We don't love many people and have own time.
And many young men think "I don't have enough money to marriage!", so they feel single life is more comfortable.

But, in my opinion, marriage makes people happier.

Of coarse marriage have many benefit, for example, we can have a child and a love increase, and for women we get stable income.

To marriage is most beautiful thing for women, I think.
I know some people don't think so and they make much of their job or something.

If you really love him or her, you should think you want to tie the knot even if marriage is tough.
That's natural, don't you think so?

I'm interested in the job concerned with a marriage.

When I was 16 years old and went to Florida, I went to wedding at church with my host family.
It was so beautiful, really. I was greatly touched.

In the future, I wanna be a wedding planer or dress stylist.
I want to help couple to become their wedding wonderful because I like to see some one's happy face.

Diary: Aquarium in Enoshima

Last week, I went to Enoshima!

My boyfriend and I rent a car and drove to Enoshima, and we also went to the sea because it was so hot day.

The sun and breeze was comfortable.

Then, we went to Enoshim Aquarium!

I really like the aquarium. When I watch fishes swim in the aquarium I feel relax. :)

They are called "jellyfish".
I'd never knew this name but they are like a jelly, exactly.
A sigh explained that 99% of their body are water.

It surprised me. It's so mysterious..but beautiful.

Music Review

Ne-yo is famous black singer in US.
I like him because his voice is sweet, nice, and his performance is also cool.

Sometimes his song makes people excited and sometimes feel romantic.
I think good point of his songs.

I like these song, "Sexy love" and "Hate that I love you".
Those are love song.
The latter is collaboration song with Rihanna, famous female singer.
I want to listen his love songs when I fall in love with someone:)
And, last year I went to his live in japan!
Here's some photos at Nippon-Budokan.

It was amazing.
Of coarse it was my first time to listen his song in live, so my friends and I were really excited.
He sang about 20 songs from "Years of the gentleman", third album.
He's so famous but if you haven't heard yet, I really recommend you.

Last week, we listened about the issue of veils.

The British government has introduced guideline for head teachers to help them decide their school's dress code on religious clothing.
If they decide, some items of clothing such as veils covering the face can be banned.

I understand that. If Muslims cover their whole faces, some students feel afraid of it and it's hard to see their facial emotions.
Some Muslims may insist their human lights because wearing a veil is politically symbolic.
But I think banning veils is better choice for all children's education.
